NAME OF THE SCHOOL: PACE UNIVERSITY
Private institution Pace University has auxiliary campuses in Westchester County, New York, and its flagship campus in New York City. The Pace brothers, Homer St. Clair and Charles A. founded it as a school of business in 1906. About 13,000 students are enrolled at Pace in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs.
About 100 majors are available at Pace University’s six colleges and schools, which include the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, the Lubin School of Business, the Elisabeth Haub School of Law, the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Health Professions.
In addition, it houses the television program Inside the Actors Studio and provides a Master of Fine Arts in performance and Through Actors Studio Drama School.
The institution collaborates with Pace High School and operates a women’s rights center in Yonkers, New York, as well as a business incubator.
As the Pace Institute, Pace University expanded to operate in other significant American cities after beginning operations at the New York Tribune Building in New York City. While keeping its location in Lower Manhattan, the organization sold its properties outside of New York in the 1920s. It opened its first campus in Westchester in 1963 after buying its first permanent residence at 41 Park Row in Manhattan in 1951. Pace unveiled 1 Pace Plaza, its largest structure, in 1969 and it was converted to a university four years later.
The Pace company was established in 1906 by siblings Homer St. Clair Pace and Charles Ashford Pace to run their own business and accounting schools. The Pace brothers hired a class on one of the floors of the New York Times Building, which is now the location of the One Pace Plaza complex, using a $600 loan. 13 men and women made up the first class that the Paces taught. The school relocated multiple times throughout Lower Manhattan as it expanded quickly.
The Pace brothers’ school quickly became the Pace Institute and grew across the country, providing courses in business law and accounting in a number of American towns. In YMCAs around the New York-New Jersey region, the Pace brothers’ classes were being taken by some 4,000 pupils. [when?] Boston, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Cleveland, Michigan, Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, Kansas City, St. Louis, Colorado, California, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle were among the other cities that offered the Pace Standard Course in Accounting. The Pace brothers sold their private schools outside of New York in the 1920s out of concern for quality control at off-site sites. They then focused their attention on the original school in Lower Manhattan, which would later become one of the campuses of Pace University.
AWARD FOR THE CARL AND LILY PFORZHEIMER SCHOLARSHIP
To provide financial assistance to students at Pace across all schools and campuses, as a way to attract the best high school students regardless of the economic situation who also demonstrate a commitment to community service, as a way to keep the most promising Pace students after their freshman year who exhibit academic promise, ongoing financial need, and active devotion to community service, and as an emergency fund for those academically talented students who fall on hard times. The Fund is managed by the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of the Comptroller, and the Office of Institutional Advancement.
ELIGIBILITY
• Students who have shown exceptional community service and who meet the following requirements are nominated by the admissions office:
Minimal B high school average and 1000 on the SAT for freshmen
Minimum GPA for Transfer Students: 3.0
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
According to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, students must demonstrate financial need. For priority consideration, students must also have submitted their FAFSA by February 1st to the Federal Student Aid office. Additionally, as part of the application, you must submit an essay or a summary of your community service activities.
• Awards worth up to $5,000 are given to qualified students each year.
• If the recipient remains enrolled full-time and maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, the grant is renewable annually.
