ABOUT THE CCNMA SCHOLARSHIP
Latino candidates who are pursuing or want to pursue careers in journalism are eligible for the CCNMA awards. Over 800 students have received scholarships totaling more than $800,000 from the CCNMA since 1976.
Scholarships are awarded based on a number of factors, such as devotion to the media industry, academic success, civic engagement, and financial necessity. In order to be eligible, applicants must be enrolled full-time for the whole academic year. A California resident or student at an accredited Californian institution or university is also required.
Chicano matters in California are the focus of the CCNMA, a nonprofit organization. It makes an effort to cultivate and promote the social, economic, and professional growth of Latino people in collaboration with reporters, media practitioners, employers, and students.

Scholarship Qualification

Other than your application, you must supply the following.
• Essay
• Letters of recommendation
• Transcript of grades
• Portfolio
HOW TO APPLY
1. Fill out the application.
2. Write a 300–500 word autobiographical essay outlining your family history, your motivation for becoming a journalist, and your thoughts on the potential place of Latino reporters in the mainstream press.
3. Two current reference documents attesting to the applicant’s journalism skills, at least one of which must come from a professor (no family members).
4. Present-day certified transcripts.
5. Resume, listing any internships, professional experience, or school work
6. Illustrations of your work Articles and/or images that have been published in school or local newspapers, as well as news reports that have been aired on campus or on satellite TV or radio, typically serve as work examples. More than two published pieces should not be included in print samples. Multiple stories may be included in the video and radio samples, but the overall runtime cannot be longer than five minutes. Samples of photography or graphics shouldn’t contain more than two printouts.
INFORMATION ON AWARDS
The scholarships, which amount from $500 to $1,000 per student, are awarded based on a number of factors, such as the applicant’s dedication to the journalism industry, academic accomplishment, community involvement, and financial necessity. In order to be eligible, applicants must be enrolled full-time for the whole academic year. A California resident or student at an accredited Californian institution or university is also required. The annual CCNMA Scholarship Dinner is open to all awardees, and they are all recognized there.
THE JUDGING PROCESS FOR THE CCNMA SCHOLARSHIP
A number of criteria are used to evaluate applicants. Apart from their academic success and financial requirements, they are generally assessed based on their dedication to the journalistic industry and sense of civic duty.
ADVANCED INFORMATION
The requirements for applicants are that they are Latino and either live in California or attend California schools. Although the student’s degree need not be in media, they must show that they intend to work in the field. Both an autobiographical essay and an interview are necessary. Additionally, awards are given based on academic excellence, civic commitment, and financial need.
