BRIEF HISTORY
Paul David described himself as a “peddler” in 1956, selling recordings to a few grocery shops out of the trunk of his 1956 Buick. Together with his wife Carol, it marked the start of a unique American success story that resulted in the establishment of a chain of national music retail stores.
Built on morals, diligence, and a passion for helping others, Camelot Music provided America its music… and ultimately assisted in creating a philanthropic base for Stark County.
The Paul and Carol David Foundation was set up in 1980 with the goal of assisting kids by giving grants to nonprofits and scholarships to students. The youths of Stark County and their households are the Foundation’s primary beneficiaries of its support.
Ohio’s Massillon was the birthplace of both founders Paul and Carol David. From the 1960s until the company was sold in 1993, Paul’s company, Camelot Music, expanded and gained national recognition as a distributor of music. Paul and Carol’s charity, or helping others in the community that had supported them, grew as their business prospered.
In the end, the Foundation was established as a result of this. Jeff David is the organization’s current leader as it constantly looks for innovative ways to carry out its purpose of providing grants and scholarships to young people in Stark County.
SCHOLARS OF DAVID
The David family has always valued education, even before Paul David’s company, Camelot Music, expanded into a chain of more than 400 music stores that is well-known nationwide. So, when the family’s business’s success gave them greater chances for generosity, they created a scholarship for children in Massillon, Ohio, where they were born and raised.
In 1980, the David Scholars Program was launched. Today, all high school students in Stark County have access to it. The curriculum encourages a holistic approach that takes into account a person’s character, needs, academic performance, and other characteristics.
These are reflected in a number of personal essays submitted by scholarship candidates, which the Foundation’s panel, which includes co-founder Carol David, carefully and deliberately reads.
The scholarship is valid for a minimum of 4 years. More than 1,300 grants have been given out, affecting the lives of numerous individuals who might not have had the chance to pursue higher education—or who might have done so with less debt.
The Paul and Carol David Foundation actively collaborates with other groups whose missions and objectives align with ours in order to enhance the lives of kids, students, and families in Stark District and beyond.
The community’s welfare is a priority for these groups. They offer the facilities and services the community needs for health, wellness, and education.
Paul and Carol David, the co-founders, had long supported organizations including the Akron Children’s Hospital, Walsh University, the Boys & Girls Club of Massillon, the YMCA, and many more. These groups and others are still supported by the David Foundation grant program today.
ABOUT THE PAUL AND DAVID SCHOLARSHIP
The Foundation will keep awarding grants to charitable organizations that share our basic beliefs as well as scholarships to students in Stark County. We intend to investigate fresh and interesting approaches to produce advantageous outcomes for kids and their families.
PROGRAM FOR DAVID SCHOLARS
The Paul and Carol David Foundation provides high school students in Stark County with $7,000 scholarships that are renewable for four years. The Foundation has given out more than 1,300 scholarships since 1980.
ELIGIBILITY
Deserving candidates who have gained our trust are given scholarships.
Each applicant is provided the chance to show their need, personality, hard work, capacity to overcome obstacles, and ambition to succeed through a collection of essays and supplementary information.

THE SCHOLARSHIP’S WORTH
The scholarship is worth a total of $28,000. If the winner earns at least 12 credits every semester and keeps a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, the scholarship can be maintained for a total of 8 semesters ($3,500 per semester).
