TED ROLLINS (1962-2021)
Ted was a great visionary, businessman, philanthropist, musician, and friend to many people all across the world. He was also a beloved brother, father, son, spouse, and mentor to countless people. Ted’s first job as a teen was to carry Johnny Cash’s baggage while he was on tour and eventually joined him on stage. Prior to getting his MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, Ted attended The Citadel and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with honors. He then began working as a banker in New York, where he specialized in real estate finance. Together with Mike Harnett, a classmate from business school, he later founded Campus Crest, a publicly traded firm with over 50,000 beds across the US and Canada in over 70 locations with assets totaling more than $2.3 billion in both partnership and wholly-owned facilities. Ted launched Valeo in the middle of the 2010s after assisting Harrison Street in helping Campus Crest go public. The company initially operated in England before being expanded into Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Ireland, and the US.
In addition to others, he was on the boards of Fortegra and Rollins Jamaica. Work Hard was the mantra he utilized in both business and life, and it perfectly describes his limitless energy, good humor, and generous nature.
It’s crucial to mention that he benefited immensely from the guidance of other eminent family members, mentors, and leaders, such as his father John W. Rollins, Sr., his cousin R. Randall Rollins, John R. Cash, and his brother John W. Rollins Jr.
