SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDER

TOM AND JEAN YAWKEY

Tom and Jean Yawkey’s narrative spans more than eight decades thanks to the promises they made to the residents of Massachusetts, New England, and Georgetown County, South Carolina, as well as their influence on children’s and families lives. The cautious measures the Yawkeys took to ensure that their impact would continue on through the activities of the Yawkey Foundation highlight their affection for these towns and their modest feeling of duty to people in need. Perhaps the Yawkeys’ most notable accomplishment was their long-term control of the Boston Red Sox. Tom and Jean Yawkey were working more subtly, but with equal passion and dedication, to help people who were most in need.

The Yawkey Foundation is still dedicated to continuing to recognize Tom and Jean Yawkey’s dedication to helping those in need. The Yawkey Foundation is dedicated to upholding and sustaining the charitable values of the Yawkeys by funding noteworthy nonprofits that offer support, opportunity, and dignity to the weak and underserved. To date, the foundation has awarded more than $530 million in charitable grants to organizations working in the fields of health care, education, social service, youth, and amateur sports in general, arts and culture, and conservation and wildlife.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
